A little bit about us - #3 Darcy

Introducing a brand new series of blogs we are going to be posting the next few weeks - 'A little bit about us'. We do already have a meet the team page on our website, if you haven't seen click here.
In the meet the team page, one of our girls writes a little spill about each one of our staff members - a quick summary to get to know who you is serving you! However we thought it might be a cool idea to get to know us a little bit more in depth written by each staff member about themselves. So ta-ta, we introduce 'A little bit about us!'
Every week we will upload one of our staff members blog!
We hope you enjoy - we love making the EEFM family grow so always feel free to come in and chat with us and get to know us more. We want our space to feel like yours, like home.

Introducing: Darcy

How long have you worked at EEFM?

Hi I’m Darcy and was once a newbie to East End Flower Market but now I’m more of a middle ager to the business! Coming up to my two year anniversary with East End Flower Market who will be four and a half at the time. I’ve almost been here for half of the journey and seen the business grow so much as well as myself over that time (which flew by!) and loved every minute of it.

What’s your favourite flower? And why?

I have two favourite flowers that stand out but there are so many more that I love. Sunflowers are a winner for me, the simplicity and representation of happiness in a sunflower always puts a smile on my dial! The other winner…. Geraldton wax, not so commonly known but an Australian native that is absolutely gorgeous and comes in a variety of colours. It’s always my favourite time of the year when ‘Gezza’ comes back into season. What’s even better is that its EDIBLE, with a lemony taste that can be used in curries and cocktails (Yum!). Be careful if you’re going to have a nibble that the flower is organic and that you only eat the petals. Some of my other low keys faves are billy buttons, gerberas, king proteas, chamomile and Alstromeria. But also these goodies, hydrangea, celosia, trix, peonies, paper daisies, waratahs and pin cushions. So all flowers hahahaha!

What’s your favourite plant? And why?

Plants, again, I have so many that I adore. Fiddle leaf figs are unbeatable and can grow so uniquely which is fun. Chain of hearts are probably my favourite, I mean c’mon a plant that grows in the shape of a heart, get out! So cute! Also tractor seats are just so cool. Bonsais and cacti also really groovy in the variety they can come in and lastly, pileas, there’s something so classy about the flat leaf plant that makes you love them. Then I remember Zanzibar gems and monsteras and I think they’re pretty cool too. So I guess I’m just passionate with both plants and flowers. My favourite plant at home though, is my devil’s ivy, as it’s so easy to grow and has become so long that I’m obsessed with it.

How many plants have you got in collection at home?

My home collection consists of too many plants to count and I’ve spread the plant obsession onto my housemates so we basically live in a jungle with a plant every where you look! My array of plants includes; many different succulents, a devils ivy, a fiddle, a rubber tree, pilea, snake plant and Zanzibar. My want list includes a peace lily, chain of hearts, bonsai, cactus, golden cane palm, Monstera, tractor seat and maybe another fiddle because hey can you ever have enough?

What’s your favourite thing about working at EEFM?

My favourite part of working for East End Flower Market is ALL OF IT! The people (we’re all pretty groovy!), a very family atmosphere. The variety of job never gets boring; delivering, making bouquets, potting plants, admin, blog writing, shop managing and picture taking keeps us pretty busy. I can’t forget the beautiful shop atmosphere I work in either, being surrounded by beautiful fresh flowers and nice smelling candles. Or the fun we get up to at the studio, especially when little Bede or Henry come to visit. I also have the best bosses in the world which makes getting up for work everyday a breeze. Mostly the job is rewarding, creating a bouquet for a celebration and being part of cheering someone up or making their day. I love the stories behind the flowers, my favourite and so exciting is making flowers for a proposal, also writing card messages and seeing the love and kindness in the world. I have one of the best jobs in the world and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

So basically, to wrap things up (funny considering I wrap bouquets for a living!), I love flowers, plants, my job, my work pals and East End Flower Market.
