Plant Profile: Umbrella Tree

Scientific Name: Schefflera arboricola
Native to: Taiwan

The Umbrella Tree is a lush, glossy-leafed houseplant that makes a bold statement indoors. With its distinctive umbrella-shaped foliage, this plant adds a tropical touch to any room and thrives with minimal fuss, making it a favourite for both new and experienced plant owners.

🌱 Care Instructions

  • Watering: Moderate – Water regularly, allowing the top few centimetres of soil to dry out before watering again. Keep soil evenly moist but never waterlogged. Mist occasionally if your indoor environment is dry.

  • Sunlight: Moderate – Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some light shade. Avoid direct harsh sunlight which can scorch its leaves.

  • Growth: Slow to Moderate – Naturally slow growing, so you won’t need to repot often. With the right care, it can reach impressive heights over time.

Extra Tips

  • Keep in rooms with temperatures between 16–24°C and away from drafts or sudden drops in temperature.

  • Wipe leaves with a damp cloth to keep them dust-free and shiny.

  • If your Umbrella Tree gets leggy, prune back the stems to encourage a bushier growth habit.
