Unity. The way forward.
Refugee Week is Australia’s main calendar event aimed at educating the public about who refugees are, and why they have come to Australia. Further to this, it exists to highlight and celebrate the countless positive contributions refugees make to our community, and focus on what the community can do in return, to ensure refugees feel safe and welcomed here in Australia. It allows people to do something positive for refugees, asylum seekers and displaced people.
The theme for Refugee Week 2021 is ‘Unity. The way forward.’ More than ever, we are seeing the importance of working together, in order to survive, grow and thrive.
We’ll be making a donation of much needed pantry supplies to the Welcoming Centre.
"The Welcoming Centre exists to create a safe, supportive and welcoming space for refugee families, people seeking asylum, recently arrived migrants, and the local community. Established in 2013, and based in Bowden, the Centre provides access to essential services, social support and intercultural connection – with a focus on building authentic relationships that help people to engage more effectively in the diversity of Australian life. Each year, hundreds of families and individuals engage with the Welcoming Centre. Facilitated by a part-time coordinator, the reach and impact of the Centre relies heavily on the generosity of sponsors, donors, and community volunteers."
We’ve made it easy for you to make a contribution too, by using the Tap and Go donation machine, in store at 83 Halifax St!
